Why I Paint These Reminders of Well-Being
Hello. My name is Charles, and as a painter, my hope is to offer a window into the world of mindfulness through the diverse mediums I use. In my zero waste studio, I mix traditional paints with unexpected up-cycled materials like house paint, scraps of paper, crayons, and pieces of plastic.
My aim is to create a symphony of textures and hues that gently nudges us towards a deeper awareness of our mental well-being. My intention is to guide viewers on a reflective journey. This journey begins with a moment of mindfulness, much like how I start each painting - with eyes closed, envisioning what the canvas might hold.
As I bring these visions to life, my wish is that each element, each color, and stroke, becomes a gentle, physical reminder of the importance of being present.
My studio is my space for advocating for mental health through art.With every brushstroke, I hope to weave a narrative that underscores the importance of mental care.
As people view my paintings, I hope they feel invited to pause, to reflect, and to open their minds to the beauty of the present moment.

About Charles
Charles Forest is a self-taught artist, born in Santa Maria, California, and currently residing in the high desert of Boise, Idaho. He began his artistic journey at age 13, by utilizing discarded house paint from his father's workshop and a 35mm camera.
His work is influenced by his Latinx and Irish heritage, reflecting a blend of chromatic and tenebrous elements, embodying both playfulness and stoicism.
Forest's art, rich in contradictions, echoes life's multifariousness and focuses on our personal pain, and healing. He promotes mental health awareness through his work, which also supports mental health initiatives.
Forest has created a new visual language, his unique style incorporates unconventional upcycled materials such as scape-wood and drop cloths. Forest is known for his innovative, multi-sensory dining experiences that merge visaul and performance art with gastronomy.
